Being good is hard, especially in a world that can make you so angry.
John from Hull (original working title) is a story that asks big questions about race, class and privilege. It is about the people in our community and how the constant pressure we’re all under can shape us into people we don’t want to be. All this will be told in Middle Child’s unique style, taking high quality, bold new writing and placing audiences at the heart of the experience.
Middle Child has a reputation for creating compelling event theatre which tells bold, complex stories. John from Hull will continue that work by asking how we can be good in a world that makes us so angry, placing an epic State of the Nation play within public space, allowing us to reach beyond traditional theatre audiences. This will make for an electric experience, providing a space where a community can come together to interrogate challenges around race and class whilst also telling a powerful story which has the audience’s experience at its heart.
‘Middle Child claims on their website that they will set fire to your expectations of what a night at the theatre can be. Yeah, but they really do.’
The Telegraph
‘There is a disconnect between an industry predominantly based in metropolitan areas and those who feel unheard, those who never go to the theatre, who think it’s not for them, or who have no access. Middle Child is the kind of company that can bridge the gap.’
Lyn Gardner
