Waiting Song is a song and trapeze duet played out on a striking steel rig. Two circus performers, dressed in golden sequinned fabric, chat to the crowd, asking them what good things they are looking forward to.

They climb and shift around the metal bars and the small stage, sharing thoughts and reflecting the desires of the audience, who are beguiled to hear their aspirations voiced back to them.

The artists sing an exquisite melody, simultaneously twisting their bodies through strong and playful shapes on the trapeze, suspended from the curved metal rig. They voice the lyrics that the audience follow from the printed postcards. The words of the song derived from lengthy discussion about the difference between hoping for something and looking forwards to something that you believe will happen.

Audiences sometimes sing along, or sway to the guitar accompaniment. People are mesmerised by the lyricism of the trapeze moves and might look through the rig to the sky, letting birds or clouds frame the intention. People often come forward afterwards and thank the artists for the moment of calm, for giving them a joyful and peaceful experience in amongst present realities.

Waiting Song is about looking for the good things and placing them firmly into your own future.

“A subtle bond developed between the performers and the audience, based on the simple but profound link that formed from the briefest of conversations.”

“A little gem guaranteed to lift the spirits of whoever is watching.”

“A rare feat – exploring what a hopeful response might look like to the depth and breadth of challenge that we face at this moment in human history – personal, societal, environmental, global – with elegant simplicity, humour and charm”
