Announcing our new partners and advisors
30 October 2024
Without Walls is delighted to welcome Inspirate, Activate and Birmingham Hippodrome as new Artistic Directorate partners, alongside new Access and Sustainability Advisors.
NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTORATE PARTNERS
FROM INSPIRATE
Inspirate shapes, nurtures and platforms the evolution of contemporary South Asian arts, ensuring that South Asian artistry and talent is an integral and visible part of the arts sector, weaved into the fabric of UK culture.
Our work centres upon the South Asian diaspora, examining the ever shifting dialogue between heritage, roots, migration and intersecting identities. At the heart of our work is the creative alchemy, artistic richness and critical thinking that the diasporic experience inspires within South Asian artists and communities.
Our flagship festival is An Indian Summer, platforming contemporary South Asian creativity across a vibrant combined arts programme. Our festival is open to all, creating a shared space for people from all backgrounds to collectively engage in culture.
‘Our journey with Without Walls has developed from being part of the Creative Development Network, to touring Ancient Giants last year, and now joining the Artistic Directorate. Joining the AD is an exciting time for Inspirate and we’re delighted to embark upon this next step. It’s an opportunity for us to jointly explore change and innovation within the outdoor arts sector, with diversity and inclusion sitting authentically at the heart of this partnership.’
FROM KATE WOOD, BILL GEE AND DOM KIPPIN AT ACTIVATE
Dorset based, Activate, exist to promote, support, and produce performing arts projects in communities, bringing world-class events to unexpected places; and they’ve been doing it for over 30 years. Their aim is to break down barriers and reach the widest possible audiences, while celebrating natural landscape and sense of place. In everything they do there are just two rules: anything is possible, and everyone is invited. Producers of the international biennial festival, Inside Out Dorset, partners in international collaboration and Executive Creative Producers of Nature Calling a project in partnership with the National Landscape Association.
‘The team at Activate are so pleased to be invited to join the Artistic Directorate at Without Walls. We join an experienced and passionate partnership invested in supporting, commissioning and touring contemporary outdoor arts. We appreciate the time and commitment that goes into being a member of the Directorate, and look forward to being a new partner.’
FROM MATT EVANS AT BIRMINGHAM HIPPODROME
Birmingham Hippodrome is on a mission to provide that “goosebumps” feeling through memorable and extraordinary experiences. Our vision is clear, we want a “distinctive, world-class Birmingham cultural scene with the Hippodrome at its heart”. We see the streets of Birmingham as a stage, with programmes, productions, and events in collaboration with partners across the city.
As one of the biggest providers of arts and culture in the city, the Hippodrome provides over a million people a year with those same “goosebumps” moments through our on and off stage programmes and performances.
‘Shows supported by Without Walls have formed an integral part of our festivals programme for many years. Birmingham Hippodrome focuses on bringing the best of outdoor arts into our city, so we are very excited to be supporting the development of new, national outdoor work as members of the Artistic Directorate.’
From Nathan Jackson our new Sustainability Advisor

He’s also led and supervised specialist rigging and technical teams in preparation for numerous major shows, nationally and internationally. As a neurodivergent individual, Kate’s lived experience fuels her passion for ensuring cultural events are inclusive for all. Her work continues to focus on creating lasting, impactful change in accessibility across the arts sector.
‘I’m delighted to be working with Without Walls and the newly commissioned artists to explore how their projects can be created, presented and toured as sustainably as possible.’
‘I’m delighted and honoured to be working with Without Walls as Access Advisor. This really is a dream role for me, having spent my career working in disabled led spaces. This work means a lot to me both personally and professionally, and developing arts experiences and cultural events to be ever more inclusive to our audiences and arts workers is vital. I’m excited to get stuck in and support the Without Walls artists and festival organisers in delving in to access, building on much existing knowledge and finding new steps to take together too.’
