BLUEPRINT R&D 2025 OPEN CALL

Eligibility  Timeline  Access  Guidance Documents and Proposal

The 2025 Blueprint Open Call supports the Research & Development (R&D) of bold and innovative outdoor arts projects. Blueprint is an opportunity for artists to experiment, collaborate, and refine new ideas. We recognise that developing ambitious work takes time, and this programme provides a space to explore and test creative concepts before committing to full production.

A performer wearing all black is moving with a sheer red sheet that is dramatically draped over their face and right arm.
Four performers are standing side on in a circle. They all have their arms outstretched with their right arms pointing into the circle. They all have their heads turned in the circle where they are smiling at each other.

ELIGIBILITY

We welcome proposals from UK-based artists across all disciplines. We’re looking for innovative, ambitious ideas that challenge perceptions of outdoor arts.

Key criteria

  • Without Walls supports UK-led projects. Collaborations with international artists are welcome, but the lead partner must be UK-based.
  • Proposals should be designed for outdoor arts festival touring, with artists committed to exploring opportunities beyond Without Walls festivals.

Without Walls is a leader in the development of exceptional outdoor art. We are a network of cultural organisations and festivals dedicated to bringing engaging, transformative work to communities across the UK. Given the competitive nature of Blueprint, we encourage proposals aligned with the needs of our network. Festivals in our network predominantly occur in urban environments during the summer. Consequently, we are not seeking proposals for:

  • Site-specific work
  • Public realm visual art
  • Night-time-only performances

GUIDANCE DOCUMENTS

We aim to make the submission process as straightforward as possible. Your primary task is to provide a clear, compelling response to one central question: what is your idea, and who are your collaborators?

When writing your proposal, please cover the following points:

  • A detailed description of your R&D and its goals
  • An introduction to your company and its past work
  • Any relevant experience in outdoor arts
  • Information about your creative team and collaborators
  • Plans for sharing your work during the R&D

Please do read through the guidance documents provided before submitting your proposal.

You can save your progress as you go to return the form later. We still recommend you prepare your answers offline to ensure you have a backup copy. Here is a template you can use as required.
